STARTER

MOTOR

DESCRIPTION

The starter

new

type,

small, light-weight

and

called a

high-speed internal-reduction

starter.

The pinion shaft

separate

from

the

motor

shaft;

the

pinion

slides

only

the

pinion

shaft.

A reduction gear

installed between

the

motor

shaft

and

a pinion

shaft.

The

pinion sliding part

not

exposed outside

the

starter

that

the

pinion

may

slide

smoothly

without

becoming fouled with dust

and

grease.

The

motor shaft

supported

both

ends

ball bearings. The

lever

mechanism,

switch

and

overrunning clutch inner circuit

are

identical

conventional

ones.

WARNING:

The

following

emergency

starting

procedures

must

not

used

with

gasoline

engines.

Sparks

could

cause

explosion

and

fire.

Prior

testing,

n£Rke

certain the

ships

batteries

are

full

charge and that the starting system wiring connections

(terminals)

are

clean

and

tight.

Pay

particular attention

the

ground

wire

connections

the

engine

block.

check

the

wiring,

try

cranking

the

starter for a

few

seconds,

never

than

seconds

a time, then

run

your

hand

along

the

wires

and

terminals looking

for

warm spots

that indicate resistance. Repair

replace

any

trouble

spots.

Using a multimeter, test

the

voltage between the positive

temunal stud

the

start solenoid

and

the

engine block

(ground).

volts, the starter

faulty.

terminal
